These days it seems like Joel Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5, is usually in the media spotlight for more negative reasons than positives. Whether it be a Twitter feud, or a sarcastic gesture, we often forget that behind the Deadmau5 helmet is a man who also still seeks to give back to the the local communities where he grew up in. And it has just been announced that he is doing exactly that.

Deaudmau5 will be teaming up with United Way Milton, a non-profit organization founded in 1982, with the purpose of channeling charitable donations to local social service agencies. Today, United Way Milton supports 29 agencies throughout the community and reaches out to more than 25,000 Milton residents, including families, children, youth, seniors and those in need. The organisation are launching a community event will take place on Friday September 25th at Mohawk Racetrack, and is set to be their biggest fundraising campaign in history. Kate Holmes, CEO at United Way Milton, emphasized the importance of this announcement, “The increased funds will ensure that United Way Milton continues to keep pace with the rapid population growth. The additional funds raised will be used to reduce waitlists and fund additional services for more people in our community.”

Deadmau5 will be performing at the event, along with speeches from guests including business leaders, and union, government and political leaders. It is not often we see such generous gestures from international artists, and Deadmau5 is setting a great example of just some of the ways that today’s artists can give back to their local communities. We hope this is the beginning of a positive trend that Joel has started!
