One of the biggest clubs around the world will be losing its legendary resident who has blown the roof off the place every single night he puts on a show. Carl Cox, one of dance music’s most renowned DJ’s, has announced that he will be ending his residency from Space Ibiza. Cox has been behind the decks in front of Ibiza’s club-goers for about 15 years now. As one of the best and longstanding producers of house and techno music, the party island will definitely not be the same without its king.

When Cox spoke to DJ Mag, he revealed:

“Next year will be my last year at Space Ibiza, so please do not miss a single night if you can, very special line-ups for 15 weeks. Watch this space…”

Cox’s departure certainly feels like an end of an era. Cox’s situation is somewhat similar to a franchise sports athlete who everybody loves but will have to leave at some point in time. For the residents and visitors of Space Ibiza, it is like losing this athlete. One factor that Cox told the media regarding his exit is the club owners’ plan to change Space into an Ushuaia Club. In an interview with Mixmag, he stated:

“The thing is, all good things come to an end. It’s common knowledge that the owners of Ushuaia [and Space] want to turn Space into Ushuaia Club. Whether it’s a good or bad thing, I don’t want to be a part of it. It’s got nothing to do with me. If I re-contract myself to do Ushuaia Club at Space, potentially, what do I do? What would they want me to do? Either carry on doing what I’ve been doing for 15 years or wise up to what the future holds.”

Even though he is now slowly closing the curtains as a resident of Space Ibiza, we must still look forward to what the award-winning DJ has in stored in the future. This dance music legend may be ending his reign in the island but that does not stop him from continuing to party with the rest of the world.
