The multiple Grammy winner Skrillex is to host a fundraiser to bring a Sparks-based art installation to life for Burning Man 2016. The American producer & DJ will be performing for free at Reno Events Center on May 27th, generating an estimated 50 000$ upfront, and 125 000$ overall income and all proceeds will go towards the realization of the project, caring the name of “Space Whale”.

“Space Whale” is a 50-foot tall stained glass, full-scale humpback whale sculpture that will be accompanied by a stained glass whale calf at its flank. The two whales will appear with their tails up and their bellies skimming the dusty floor of the Black Rock Desert playa, or the dried lakebed of what was Lake Lahontan 9,000 years ago. The sculpture will weight over 30 000 pounds and will be made of over 1800 glass panels, custom designed by artist Android Jones.

“He cares. He really loves the art, the experience and the creative energy of Burning Man,” Matt Schultz,  lead artist for the “Space Whale, said of Skrillex. “We got together last year, and he offered to throw a show for us. It’s enormous.”

The World-renown phenomenon Skrillex is also to create “ambient, creative, reflective,” music for the two creatures. The sculpture will be used to raise awareness about the environment, creating an interactive atmosphere, where light shows & multiple discussions are to accent towards climate change and energy policy.

“We hope to make magic”.
