Time and again today’s Electronic music makes us drift back to the days when Trance ruled radio stations around the world. The likes of Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, Ayla, Vincent De Moor,Ā Rank 1,Ā Binary Finary and Armin van Buuren,Ā among many others, were the stars of our music world. Trance’s golden years are, arguably, one of the manyĀ reasons why Electronic Music dominates the mainstream sphere today. And while he may be a bit seem off to his fans for his current output, Tiesto was at the forefront of this takeover of global music scene. Keep in mind that there is no discounting of his talent and ability even as there might remain criticisms of his gradual shift. But for a moment’s peace, we would like you to forget all that and remind you of all the great music that has got him here.

One of the first puzzle pieces in the Tiesto dream-like rise to stardom was the release of his debut album ‘In My Memory‘ in 2001 on Tiesto’s own label ‘Magik Muzik,‘ which exists as a sub-label on Dutch label ‘Black Hole Recordings‘ founded by Tiesto andĀ Arny Bink in 1997. The label had been a host to a large chunk of Trance music stemming out of Europe at that time and Tiesto’s release was only a landmark in the history of albums that have taken their places on the shelf at Black Hole Recordings’ office.

The initial album featured 9 releases, all produced and written solely by TiestoĀ himself with the exception of the 5th track ‘Obsession‘ which was written by him in collaboration with fellow Dutch composer and engineer Junkie XL. Comprising of vocals from a trio of British singers, the charming Jen JohnstonĀ on ‘Close To You‘, the mesmerizing Nicola HitchcockĀ on the title track and the ever-youthfulĀ Kirsty HawkshawĀ on ‘Battleship Grey‘. Other than the absolutely absorbing vocal collaborations, the album was also the platform for singles such as ‘Dallas 4 PM‘, ‘Flight 643‘, ‘Lethal Industry‘ and ‘Suburban Train‘. Combined with ‘Obsession,‘ these five releases launched Tiesto into stardom and remain representative of the sound and compositions that Tiesto is celebrated for.

A second goĀ was also given to the album in the shape of a 2 disc release. The first featured originals from the 2001 album and the second disc showcased 10 different remixes of various originals from the likes ofĀ Starecase, Way Out West,Ā Airwave,Ā Svenson,Ā Cosmic Gate, V-One, Mauro Picotto,Ā Quivver andĀ Oliver Klein Vox. Needless to say, given Tiesto’s importance and legacy, the album remains an unforgettable landmark in the history of Dance Music.

The album remains forever golden and available for purchase on Black Hole Recordings hereĀ and is available on iTunes for purchase here.
