Last week the party capital of the world Ibiza hosted the annual International Music Summit. During this three-day event, the electronic music industry was brought together in which people were able to network, meet with each other, and provide information regarding what had transpired throughout the past year. From music sales to club and festival popularity, numerous topics were covered, which allowed anyone involved with the industry to gain insights of electronic music in many different aspects.

One particular scope that was heavily discussed during the summit is the earnings of the DJ’s and producers. According to Forbes, the salary of these artists slowed down in growth from 2014 to 2015. Compared to the immense increase from 2012 to 2013, when the collective earnings went up 97%, the total number only peaked 3% last year.

DJ Earnings

Based on the infographic, the top three DJ’s of the industry made about the same amount as the following six DJ’s combined. These three DJ’s were hitmaker Calvin Harris, French pioneer David Guetta, and Dutch legend Tiësto, who earned $66 million, $37 million, and $36 million respectively. Last year, Tiësto overthrew Avicii for the third spot on the list and earned significantly more money compared to 2014.

Calvin Harris, on the other hand, was estimated to make about the same amount for 2015 as he did in 2014. Regardless, Harris still earns a lot more than an NBA player. For instance, Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James’s salary in 2015 was around $24 million, which is astonishingly less than a half of how much Harris makes.

Lastly, the second and third top DJ’s saw an increase of over 20% from 2014 to 2015 while the remainder of the top 9 list actually fell by 7%. With these eye-opening statistics, it will definitely be intriguing to see how the industry runs in 2016 with several artists coming up on the horizon.
