You can’t talk about trance music without talking about two of the veterans of the genre – Tiësto and Armin Van Buuren. While the former hasn’t been involved in the genre for a number of years now, Armin is still very much seen as the “King Of Trance” and has been moving the genre forward while also taking risks and setting a different direction of his own sound. To quote Armin himself “Don’t be a prisoner of your own style“.

However, what happened when these two dance music legends came together was a colossal collaboration which was released sixteen years ago today. It is of course the Alibi project conjured up between the duo with the track “Eternity“.

A beautiful mix of pounding dance-floor driven percussion progressing into a beautiful array of dreamy, melodic sounds, this is one of those tunes that sits as one of the benchmarks in trance and lives long in the memory of fans of the genre.  An absolutely timeless chord progression runs throughout this tune and the climax is nothing short of epic. We can only imagine what these two could conjure up today if they made a trance track again.

So on its sixteenth birthday, we look back at one of the best trance tunes ever made:
