Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s ascendancy to the No.1 ranking on DJ Mag’s Top 100 Poll can be argubly traced back to a handful of tracks at the start of the decade. Teaming up with renowned DJ/Producer Yves V and the relative new comer from Indonesia Angger Dimas, their major collaboration brought about the seismic “Madagascar”.
At the time Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike were coming off the back of their iconic remix alongside Axwell on David Tort’s “One Look“, making the run up to “Madagascar’s” release on their label ‘Smash The House’ fill with even more anticipation. In turn, pairing up with emerging talents of the global spotlight, Yves V and Angger Dimas provided an injection of alternative originality and flare to help master the track.
While prolonged in title, the track certainly still packs a punch today. Helping forged the Big Room trend in terms of its formula and sound, the track now has nearly 4 million plays on YouTube and SoundCloud. It’s bellowing drawn synths are met with an array of subtleties to reconfigure the energized atmosphere and craft a main stage frenzy.
Having been released five years ago, the track received praises by the likes of Tiesto, Sebastian Ingrosso, David Guetta, Axwell and a very eager Steve Aoki at the time. It also helped to continue demonstrating the potential of 3-artist collaboration and multi-act production’s, a trend that has continued for a long time since.
