Dance music legend Paul Oakenfold teams up with multi-instrumentalist duo BRKLYN and singer Amba Shepherd for a brand new acoustic-inspired “U Are”. The release has officially been named as “a set-up record for my first single from my album.” Although the information about the forthcoming album “Pop Killer” is fairly limited, it is promised that the essence of what a usual album by him sounds like will be maintained.
As Paul has expressed:
My last two artist albums have been based around great singers and wonderful songs with cutting edge rhythm. This album, which is nothing different to what I’ve previously done, will now be perceived as much more of a pop record. But I haven’t really taken that approach – I’ve just worked on what I’ve always believed in, which is great songs and great singers.
“U Are” is a perfect representation of exquisite harmony between a catchy guitar melody and the voice of one of the most demanded and loved vocalists – Amba Shepherd. Initially planned to have both an acoustic and a dance version, the acoustic construction of the track by BRKLYN made it into the main track.
Some songs take a couple days, some songs take a week; that song literally took a couple hours.
After the successful fusion of the works of both, Amba Shepherd was the vocalist selected by Oakenfold himself, and whose voice BRKLYN call a “choice of melodies”.
To conclude, Paul has opened up about his creation process:
The process usually starts with an instrumental that I’ll play out to make sure it works in terms of arrangement and sound. Then I’ll go in with a writer/singer and work on the top line. [That way] you already have something that’s tried and tested; you know it works.
