Home Uncategorized Avicii’s hit “Wake Me Up” reaches One Billion views

Avicii is synonymous with big numbers and records within the electronic dance music scene. And it seems every month or two he’s breaking record’s or reaching another impressive statistic. Well as of this week, we can now lay claim to being in the same league’s as the likes of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Psy.

Coming off of his album ‘True’ album three years ago in 2013, “Wake Me Up” has been his biggest commercial success. And with a portfolio that includes “Levels”, “Hey Brother” and “Waiting For Love”, that is saying something.

In an unprecedented move for the industry, Avicii fused dance and country music with great effect. Using Aloe Blacc’s infectious vocals and tone, the single hit radio-stations and topped charts everywhere. While some praised and other’s disapproved, it reached every corner of the globe rapidly. In turn, leading to its achievement of reaching One Billion views on YouTube. Overall, making it the second track from the growing genre to reach such a milestone, with Major Lazer’s “Lean On” the first. Considered impossible in the video platforms early days, the worldwide access has led to a new era of statistical possibility.

The video itself marks a special point in dance music, and Avicii’s career. Documenting the Swede’s quizzical Ultra performance which drew both acclaim and criticism, the lyric video is also his second most viewed clip with over 250 million plays. Still gaining over one million views a day, and watched for a total of 6000 years, “Wake Me Up” has been shared over 2.2 million times.
