The dance music industry is set to be revealed in new levels of depth with the upcoming documentary, “What We Started“. The film will revolve around the careers of Martin Garrix and Carl Cox, the perfect candidates to represent the scene.

The documentary will be produced by Bert Marcus who is known for his notable features including breakout hits Teenage Paparazzo and How to Make Money Selling Drugs. Furthermore, dance music legend, Pete Tong has been appointed as the executive producer of the documentary so we can be assured What We Started will live up to its expectations.

“The goal for us is to tell a story that is all-encompassing, dynamic, unexpected and certainly quite entertaining,” Marcus told Billboard Magazine. “I believe this is a misunderstood genre with a rich and robust 30-year history and we felt it needed to be shared properly with the world.”

What We Started will chronicle the vast careers of both Martin and Cox; showcasing the roots of how dance music came to be through Carl Cox and how EDM burst into the mainstream through Martin Garrix. There’s also confirmed cameos from Moby, Paul Oakenfold, David Guetta, Steve Angello and Richie Hawtin, plus vocal collaborators Usher and Ed Sheeran.

The filming of What We Started is already complete and plans for a marketing campaign are under way. An official release date hasn’t been decided yet but we’re expecting to hear of more news over the coming weeks.
