For over 4 decades Saturday Night Live has been home to musics most innovative talents; from Kanye West, Adele, back to Prince and The Rolling Stones, SNL’s musical guests play a pivotal role towards the shows undying success. Genre’s from Rock, Folk,Hip hop, and more have been regulars to the show’s commercial success, but it wasn’t until this past weekend that electronic music took the limelight and put on a performance the entire industry can certainly fall behind.

Daft Punk has stood tall as one of EDM’s most sought after pioneers since their career lunch back in 1993. The duo have marketed a sound unlike anything released today, and now with close to 25 years under the belts, it doesn’t look like the French producers will be slowing down anytime soon. With an action figure release, to star studded collaborations, 2016 has been a mysterious, yet successful year for them.

Their most recent collaboration has been with R&B tycoon, The Weeknd. Their single “Starboy” hit airwaves late September and since then has done nothing but shine a positive light on both music makers. Lucky for them, SNL decided to take a chance on the song and the outcome was truly bold. Unfortunately, the two masked men did make make their TV appearance, but The Weeknd did an awesome job displaying Daft Punks future house sound and rhythmic melodies. The stage design alone, lights and fog perfectly coincided with the melody and put on a great show for audience members and viewers at home. “Starboy” overall, is a vocally strong ballad chalk full of steady synth progressions and a message equipped for radio, commercial marketing, and wherever else it falls. Hopefully with all the success falling behind this, EDM can now can more of the recognition it deserves.
