If there is one DJ that has come to symbolise trance, that man would have to be Tiesto. While other ‘superstar’ DJs were busy jumping on various bandwagons a few years ago, Tiesto stuck to his guns and played the music that he enjoyed. Although he was known for his production and DJing work, it wasn’t until his marvellous “Traffic” that he shot to the forefront of trance popularity. With the immense success of this gem, people finally took a more than healthy interest in Tiesto’s own productions making tracks such as “Flight 643” and “Suburban Train”, to name a few, dancefloor staples.

And while the music he makes and plays today isn’t anywhere near trance, back in the 90s and early 00s he was the undisputed king of the genre with his masterful remixes and mix compilations. Dubbed by many as THE Trance compilation back in the days, Tiesto’s “In Search Of Sunrise” celebrates its 17th birthday today.

“In Search of Sunrise” delivered what it set out to do with a mix of the most uplifting and euphoric trance that you are likely to hear. Going through all of the episodes, this compilation series’ tracklisting should never be bothered to check because you know what to expect and during all these years, Tijs has never dissapointed.

The essence of the “In Search of Sunrise” series was the continued search for beauty and perfection in the form of music. With this instalment, Tiesto was able to touch emotions with the tracks that he has selected. This compilation wasn’t and still isn’t about the continuous onslaught of “banging” music, but more about the intricacies and subtleties that could have been found in the earlier days of dance music.

The series, currently up to its thirteenth installment, is released on Tiesto’s sublabel SongBird. On April 7th, 2010, Tiesto announced that he would no longer be involved with the “In Search Of Sunrise” series, and would instead start a new mix-compilation series, which today goes by the name Club Life Since then, Dutch DJ and producer Richard Durand is responsible for mixing the immortal, yet nostalgic compilation series.
