Joris Voorn takes us on a journey with his 2016 year mix

As the year comes to an end so too does the pile of end of year lists, ‘best of’ compilations and mixes. One of the best to be released this year however has to be from the one and only Joris Voorn. The Dutch tastemaker is renowned for his stellar productions and DJ sets and his 2016 year mix shows just how much of a world class artist and selector he really is.

The mix takes us on a real journey and traverses genres such as progressive and tech house with a sprinkling of techno in there for good measure. As Joris describes it himself, it’s a mix containing “great tunes from the last year and maybe even some classics” which he’s been playing out throughout the year. As always the music contains a very melancholic and emotional edge at parts, but it also very banging and pumping too with highlights including the heavy Slam remix of the Jack Master (early Richie Hawtin alias) tune Bang The Box as well as the anthemic Dusky tune which has been dominating DJ sets since it’s release, Ingrid is a Hybrid. The mix closes out on a reflective moment as Voorn takes the incredible Charlie Chaplin speech from the 1940 film The Great Dictator and mixes it with some beautiful Hans Zimmer. A message which is certainly needed at the end of a somewhat turbulent year.
