For a label to reach 100 releases it shows off a number of key traits. Most importantly it means they’re committed to putting out quality records and a forward-thinking approach to releasing cutting edge music. This is exactly the case with Octopus Recordings, the label of producer SIAN, who are celebrating their 100th release with a special compilation album including tunes by some of the hottest names in techno, such as Ramiro Lopez, Loko & Jam and the two artists behind this premiere-Carlo Lio & Pleasurekraft. Octopus are a label who’s ethos is built upon bringing the absolute best of techno to the world and this compilation is no different. They’ve even teamed up with skateboarding legend and fellow techno fan Aaron Jaws Homoki to bring out a series of limited edition skate decks as well as a range of other merchandise. As well as this, there will also be a number of special pop-up events around the US to celebrate OCTOPUS100 as well as an upcoming series entitled Vs which will showcase tracks from names such as Gregor Tresher and Julian Jewell.

Odditorioum can be perfectly described as a dark-room destroyer. Combining the production talents of heavyweights such as Pleasurekraft and Carlo Lio was always going to result in an absolute cracker of a tune, and the result is no exception. A groovy bassline opens up proceedings in the track before a downright dirty kick drum comes into the mix before a dreamy, very melodic synth rises into the track. A swooning, vibrating synth pans between the stereo field to add to the almost trance like feel exhibited in the breakdown before a barrage of percussion and synth hits accompany the banging beat drop. This is an interesting combination of groovy sounds along with the more melodic synth elements to create a unique but dance-floor driven track that will no doubt work well in any DJ set.

You can catch the full track below as well as a short video with Octopus founder Sian and Aaron Jaws Homoki discussing techno.
