Carl Cox set to return to Ibiza in 2017

Many tears were shed last summer as the doors slammed shut on the Space Ibiza legacy, with the “King of Ibiza” Carl Cox bidding farewell with an emotional 9-hour set at his Music is Revolution closing party in September. Now, with excitement building for the season ahead on the White Isle, it seems like the Balearic legend is set to make a sensational return.

Whilst playing at his sell-out ‘Carl Cox & Friends’ party at London’s Tobacco Dock on New Year’s Day, the British DJ dropped a huge hint about his plans for the new season, wearing a t-shirt with the logo “PURE CARL COX IBIZA 2017” on throughout his performance. On the same day a Facebook page under the same name made its first post that read, “Ibiza 2017… We are coming for you!”

The news comes to a big surprise to many fans, with the techno-master ending his 15-year residency at Space last season, following the decision from the club’s owner, and Cox’s lifelong friend, 80-year Pepe Rosello, to sell the club. And in a 2015 interview, the legendary mix-master claimed he would never return as a result of his loyalty to Pepe, stating:

“It gets handed over to Ushuaïa Group across the road and its manager Jan will be given the keys to run Space. And once that happens, everything changes. Because if Pepe’s not there, I am not there. We grew up together, we’ve been all the way through this together, and we’re going to finish together. And I’m quite happy about that, because it means we leave the legacy of a club that made a difference.”

As yet Coxy hasn’t revealed whether the Facebook page is official, and his representatives have declined to comment. However, there do seem to be indications that the 54-year old may be set to sign to a weekly residency called “Game Over” which will be held at Privilege. Either way, the return of an Ibiza legend can only be a good thing for the island in 2017! Oh yes oh yes!
