Beatport have recently updated their category list on their website and have added a brand new genre label – entitled ‘Leftfield House & Techno‘. This new category aims to help and support underground, independent and generally lesser known labels, giving them more exposure within the current dance music scene.

Labels such as Hessle Audio, Hemlock and Livity Sound will all hugely benefit from this new proposition, as it’ll be much easier to identify these brands within the website.

Beatport said the following in an official statement:

70% of the tracks sold on Beatport fall squarely in our house and techno genres, so we wanted to do something to highlight the high-quality underground releases that people could miss amongst the 25,000 new tracks that appear each week.

This move will make it easier for music lovers to discover new tracks and for labels to reach new fans.

Beatport have worked directly with smaller, boutique labels to make an area on the site which will shine a light on off-kilter, lo-fi, avant-garde house and techno. This move furthers cements our commitment to supporting the independent, forward-thinking labels that are the foundation of our scene

Overall this is great news as Beatport are finding ways to give equal exposure to all artists and labels, no matter what their background.
