A music producer, a disc jockey, a martial artist, a husband, a father, and a vlogger. These are only a few of the things that best describe the highly versatile Laidback Luke.

Known for his exceptional skills behind the decks, Laidback Luke has always been regarded as one of the industry’s finest DJ’s. His brilliant work as a DJ also coincides with his successful career as a producer, after releasing several dance music hits in the past. From his legendary house classic with Steve Angello called “Show Me Love” to his festival anthem titled “Turbulence” alongside Steve Aoki, Laidback Luke’s portfolio has been nothing short of remarkable.

Throughout his musical journey, Laidback Luke has traveled and performed all across the globe from the most prominent clubs and venues to the biggest festivals such as Tomorrowland and Coachella. Although, one of the main go-to destinations for the Dutch artist is Miami, which recently ended its annual Miami Music Week.

Discussing his past memories in Miami and what makes the city so special for him, Laidback Luke stated:

“I’ve been coming to Miami Music Week since 2001 and it was when I was unknown. I was handing out promos and mix CD’s. I would play at hotel lobbies. I would end up at house parties and afterparties. Later on, I got a little bit more famous and hung out with Swedish House Mafia and I remember tagging along with all of Fedde Le Grand’s gigs. So, my first experience here was trying to make it, up to the point where I ended up at the Ultra Main Stage in 2010. Sticking with Ultra until now, it’s been such a great ride”.

From teaching a Kung Fu class to hosting his own Mixmash Party at Nikki Beach, Laidback Luke had quite a busy schedule during Miami Music Week. With the buzz around the week-long event, he shared what he loves and finds exciting about being in the Magic City at this time of the year:

“I think the special thing is that a lot of DJ’s fly over here just to hang out, party, and have unannounced back-to-back sets. For me as an artist, instead of just the “industry” people coming from all across the globe, it’s really nice to see what the other DJ’s are up to and catch up with them. Today, I caught up with Tiësto. On Thursday, I caught up with Guetta. It’s just so good to finally see these people face-to-face again.”

Each year, Miami Music Week is ended by the massive spectacle, Ultra Music Festival. Laidback Luke has become an integral part of the world-renowned festival and prior to his performance on Saturday, March 25 at the Ultra Worldwide Stage, he revealed his plans and what he had in stored for his set. In particular, when asked if he will play any new tracks, Laidback Luke responded:

“Absolutely! I’ll be playing a bunch actually! Even though I only have 50 minutes, I’ll have Bright Lights coming on stage with me to perform our new single called “Paradise”, which will be out on Dim Mak in a couple of weeks.”

Lastly, Laidback Luke also mentioned his plans for the rest of 2017. After the release of his diverse 2015 album titled ‘Focus’, Mixmash Records’ head honcho revealed that he is currently working on another one that he is hoping to release this year. He unveiled:

“We’re going to try and finish a new album this year. Whereas my last album came out in 2015, it was such a nice ride and a cool thing to do. I’m so happy that I could turn out an album quickly and so we’re planning a new one in 2017.”
