Tiësto debuted a new remix of Kygo and Selena Gomez‘ megahit new single “It Ain’t Me” as part of his AFTR:HRS imprint. Kygo’s original signature tropical house sound is transformed into a dark, seductive deep house number, with the pounding intensity Tiësto brings to his productions.

Selena Gomez’ vocals have been distorted by the Dutch producer, and her husky coo bears a strong resemblance to the plaintive eroticism of Lana del Rey’s singing. The heavy, deep synths on the drop remind the listener of Mørten’s “Beautiful Heartbeat” and evoke the emotive experience of a midnight drive bathed in the glow city lights. Not just moody, Tiësto’s remix work preserves and even enhances the upbeat bounce of Selena Gomez’ singing on the chorus.

Currently the original version of the single has charted into the top ten of many countries worldwide, and even became Kygo’s highest-charting single in the United States, besting the chart performance of his breakout hit “Firestone”. This is not Gomez’ first foray into EDM: she previously collaborated with now-ex-boyfriend Zedd on their hit “I Want You to Know”.

Kygo is capitalizing on his continued success as EDM’s ambassador for the tropical house subgenre by taking over Avicii’s Sunday residency at Ibiza club Ushuaïa. Tiësto is known for his big room, booming mainstage hits, but his longevity in the industry has seen him embracing a variety of sounds. The AFTR:HRS imprint of his record label caters to the deep house genre, and this remix of “It Ain’t Me” only serves to further its success.

Kygo and Selena Gomez co-wrote the track along with some collaborators, basing the lyrical theme of a troubled relationship on their own experiences. The original version is at number three on the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart—the addition of Tiësto’s name and remixing gives the track potential to take the top spot.
