Global chart topper duo The Chainsmokers is joining forces with MTV for a special one-off show at the famed Ushuaïa Ibiza on Sunday, July 2. This will be The Chainsmokers’ only show in Spain this year, as they continue to make their way around North America on tour, capitalizing on their continued chart success. In addition to this famous EDM group, the show will also feature two openers. Icona Pop, of “I Love It” fame, will add an element of live music to the night, as they sing their hits. Jonas Blue, who rode the wave of tropical house last year to success with his single “Fast Car,” will also open with a DJ set amidst the perfect palm tree and sunshine setting for his music. MTV will represent their brand with Club MTV ambassadors R3wire & Varski, who have an international presence in Europe and the Middle East.
The Chainsmokers began as tongue-in-cheek with their single “#Selfie” in 2014, but resurfaced as a legitimate dance music duo with their 2015 track “Roses,” cementing their place on the music scene with a string of hits from EP Collage and album Memories…Do Not Open. The group, comprised of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, have generated controversy among purists with the tried-and-true formula of their success. Enlisting the wispy vocals of alternative female singers such as Daya and Halsey, they structure their music around simple chords and middle-eight drops, representing more of a commercial pop sound than outright dance music. This has proven itself by landing recent singles in the top ten of every major music market pop chart, and earning them nominations at fan-voted award ceremonies such as the Kids’ Choice Awards.
