Sziget Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary with a week-long festival in Budapest, Hungary from August 9-16. The Island of Freedom, as Sziget calls Óbuda Island, lies in the heart of Budapest on the Danube River, promising beautiful views of the city center for 500,000 festival attendees.

Fans from over 100 countries attend the festival every year, and the lineup is no exception, with a roster of only the best worldwide talent from the electronic dance music and pop/hip hop worlds. Major Lazer, The Chainsmokers, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Flume, NERVO, Oliver Heldens, Paul van Dyk, and Don Diablo are set to spin their hottest hits and mainstage bangers for fans. Global superstars include P!nk and Rita Ora to represent pop music, while Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Wiz Khalifa will bring hip-hop to Hungary.

Began in 1993 as an arts and music festival by a Hungarian poet, Sziget’s enduring presence in the capital city now proudly boasts a contribution of an impressive 320 million euros to the national economy. Sziget is more than just art and music, it is also a brand build on awareness of social issues: gypsy musicians perform to represent the Roma people, LGBT events are scheduled, and disabled attendees can receive assistance from a partner organization.

In addition, the festival makes a pronounced effort to make the festival green, by establishing food vendors to use only biodegradable products. Sziget partners with Lollapalooza in the United States to raise awareness among festival goers of youth “issues [which] are cultural tolerance, solidarity towards minorities and openness to mutual learning.”

Discounted tickets for all seven days run €266 and are available until May 31.
