CID and CeeLo Green take listeners back to anthemic 90’s house with his new production ‘Believer‘ which already feels like an instant classic, offering up the best of soulful dance music with a nod to Madonna’s iconic ‘Like a Prayer.’ Booming piano chords and CeeLo’s gospel vocals are 90’s house elements in the vein of the Now Voyager version of ‘You Got the Love,’ while the other synth elements have a modern, prog house sound. The lyrical theme of still believing in love, and fighting for it, is an appealing message in a climate of political discord.
In addition to the radio-ready single version, CID also released his VIP Remix of ‘Believer’ for nightclub DJ sets. CID had been teasing the track on his social media profiles, but the unexpected addition of CeeLo was a great surprise. A music video preview on his Twitter shows a fittingly-90’s VHS aesthetic with shots of people in love, such a proposal in a park.
Earlier this year, CID released ‘Secrets‘ featuring vocals by Australian popstar Conrad Sewell. The truly beautiful track demonstrates CID’s mastery of creating an emotional landscape with his music. CeeLo, formerly a host on the American version of The Voice, is perhaps most famous for being one half of Gnarls Barkley, known for their hit ‘Crazy.’ He debuted a gold alter ego at this year’s Grammy Awards, further portraying himself as one of pop music’s oddball performers.
