The infamous DJ Mag Top 100 DJ‘s poll generates a great deal of attention, criticism, and praise. Although it is said to be a popularity contest, it undoubtedly has its place in the scene. Not long after Laidback Luke gave his thoughts on the DJ Mag Top 100, KSHMR also has shared his during an interview in Israel.

KSHMR, whose real name is Niles Hollowell-Dhar, expressed that he had rather mixed emotions for the annual poll. Although he admitted he was critical of the positions certain other DJ’s had landed, when he took the highest new entry spot [#23] in 2015, he expressed that it was “a crazy revelation to me”. When asked what the DJ Mag poll meant to him, he went on to explain the following:

“I was very critical of the list, and I just thought… it is a popularity contest and the truth is, it is a popularity contest. So that’s a bad thing or a good thing depending on how you look at it.”

More often than not, DJ’s who are better known for their productions rather than their DJing, are voted into the top 100. This is what causes controversy, which leads to people questioning the list’s validity. KSHMR explained that “I am really a producer” [before a DJ]. While some DJ’s pride themselves on their live shows, KSHMR prides himself on his productions, hence why he went on to thank Spinnin’ Records for his quick rise to success.
