Following a massive string of crossover hits, Swedish EDM sensation Avicii has been responsible for merging genres that previously seemed mutually exclusive. The 27-year-old producer born Tim Bergling has undoubtedly become a poster boy, surpassing the rules that bind any musical form. The release of his 2013 album entitled ‘True’, further solidified EDM’s well-deserved place in the charts, alongside the pop, rock, hip-hop, and country music that firmly held the US market’s attention. Songs like ‘Wake Me Up’, and ‘Hey Brother’, further stamped Avicii’s trademark sound onto an unsuspecting market, becoming a talking point from pubs to clubs and classrooms to offices.

Now firmly planted in the hearts and minds of so many fans worldwide, the Swedish DJ has gone on to cement his now famed sound with the 2017 release of AVĪCI (01). While the six track ep might not be as pioneering as ‘True’, it certainly bears all the elements that make up an Avicii record. It comes as no surprise that tracks like ‘Friend Of Mine’ and ‘Without You’ are already climbing the charts and show no signs of slowing down.

In a recent interview, Avicii shared some insight to the EP, saying: “My focus on this first EP of the album was to get a mix of new and old songs, some that fans have been asking about/waiting for mixed with brand new songs that they haven’t heard before!”. Apart from his own work on the EP, the Swede recently announced that he would be hosting a remix competition, giving up and coming producers the chance to make their mark on Avicii’s trademark sound.

Most recently Avicii teamed up with Beats 1 radio, powered by Apple Music. The set gave listeners the opportunity to get a glimpse into what an audience at any of his major performances might experience, with floor shaking hits by the likes of EDX , Don Diablo, TJR, Axwell Λ Ingrosso and of course Avicii himself.
