As an artist leading the front-line of the Head Studios set up, Turin resident Luca Testa, a DJ and producer on the rise, is making quite a name for himself. The Italian producer has already been venturing further into the world of Dance music with releases such as ‘LISTEN!,’ ‘I Don’t Care,’ and ‘Stronger‘ – all on Deorro’s famous Panda Funk imprint and many would agree that with the focus and determination he has shown with the Head Studios project, this reward is well deserved.

With another potential hit in the shape of ‘Go Down‘ packaged and released on the Panda Funk label just last week, this joy ride does not seem to have an end for Luca Testa. A stellar record in its own right, ‘Go Down’ sees the Italian lay down some sober beats for funk lovers and creates an upbeat and power driven track for the charts. What’s more is that Luca Testa also landed an official remix for none other than Hardwell for his track ‘Creatures of the Night’. Although we took on the track here, there is no doubting that the story Luca Testa is about to tell for the remix is all the more exciting. We took the opportunity and sat down with him for an exclusive interview.

How long have you been a producer/DJ for? Tell us about the origin of your music. What inspired you to pursue your career as an artist?

I started making music 6 year ago, first as a DJ and than as producer! I studied sound engineering and sound design in 4 different music school and then I decided to focus my whole life in music! I just open a new studio called “Head Studios” where you can find all what I’m doing!!

Who do you consider to have been your biggest influences throughout your career that have made an impact on your productions?

I started listening to Dance music since Showtek’s old Hardstyle sound! I was really impressed to listen to that energetic sound coming from them! And then I decided to start my own career.

You’ve just released a massive Hardstyle remix of Hardwell’s hit “Creatures of the Night “. How did the remix come to life? And what was the inspiration behind this record?

It was a pleasure for me to do the remix for Hardwell. It start as a bootleg of ‘Creatures of the Night’ and then I send it to Robbert and he loved it! He sent me the acapella to make a new break and then he decided to release it officially after he played it at festivals like Ultra, EDC and many more! After that I had the opportunity to meet the guys on the Revealed team – Sebastien, Ivo, Sven and all the other guys. They are an amazing team and if you are a producer I suggest you to subscribe to the Revealed DJ project, which is the best music innovation I’ve seen in years. I absolutely LOVE it!

Speaking of your latest remix, it’s the first time you’ve used this particular sound, even Revealed fans thought it was someone else; Are you hinting at taking your music in a new direction or do you just like experimenting with new sounds?

That’s a really good question, I started making some Hardstyle because I thought that will be the next main genre for the coming year! Like the “trap” music that took over the world this year! And yes I’m making other Hardstyle tracks and remixes but I love also making some other genre – I have a pop track coming on EGO, and one G-House on my Panda Funk/Universal family!

As an artist associated with the ‘big room’ sounds, can you name 3 artists we need to watch in 2018 from this genre?

I’m moving a little bit away from the “big room” sound, even when I’m listening to music. I think the 3 biggest artist to watch in 2018 are Illenium, Brooks and and Lauv!

What does the rest of 2017 hold in store? Any hints or clues that we could get about future productions and collaborations? Upcoming plans for the coming ADE?

It’s gonna be a great end for 2017 with lot of releases, one big remix and 3 upcoming releases on 3 top labels! And for sure I will be at ADE and I hope to see you there!

Luca Testa’s latest release ‘Go Down’ on Deorro’s Panda Funk label is available for a quick purchase here.
