Home Uncategorized Calvin Harris announces retirement from Funk Wav sound

Scottish DJ/Producer Calvin Harris is undoubtedly one of the most versatile acts in electronic music. Having experimented with many different sounds and musical phases, Harris’ ability to export quality music is almost unprecedented. Now, the 34-year-old‘s latest ‘Funk Wav’ experiment is coming to a close, after the Scotsman made the announcement via Twitter.

After breaking into the scene with his Disco-inspired sound, evident in ‘Acceptable In The 80’s‘, Harris’ sound gradually developed a more EDM influence in his second album, ‘Ready For The Weekend‘, before evolving into the successful juggernaut that was ‘18 Months‘. With big shoes to fill, ‘Motion‘ did well, however, never reached the bar set by its predecessor. ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1‘ however, has performed quite well, earning Silver and Gold certification in the UK and Canada respectively.

While Calvin’s success is no secret, his seemingly endless list of awards is baffling. Harris has amassed 21 platinum-selling singles as a lead artist since 2009, with just 2 coming from his ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1’ album. His last platinum-selling single as a featured artist was back in 2011 when he collaborated with Rihanna, to deliver the U.S. 9x Platinum-seller, ‘We Found Love‘. With the majority of Harris’ success stemming from EDM-oriented material, there is a possibility fans could see him return to the realms of EDM.
