After ditching his ‘Funk Wav‘ sound and leaving it in 2017, Scottish DJ/Producer Calvin Harris is starting 2018 with a clean slate with the release of his latest single, ‘Nuh Ready Nuh Ready‘ featuring Canadian Rapper/Songwriter PartyNextDoor. The Grammy Award winner promised “a whole new experience” with his latest record and has evidently delivered.

While the track isn’t quite what some fans expected, it is a familiar sound. PartyNextDoor, who featured in Major Lazer‘s track ‘Run Up‘, infuses Carribean vibes in a track that boasts influences from Trap, Hip-Hop and 90’s House. While PartyNextDoor verses over a pumping kickdrum and Deep House bass pluck, bright horns burst over the dark background beat. Despite the track’s interesting sound, the video clip is just as interesting, if not, even more so. Flashing colours, dizzying patterns and a flurry of various elements and fx prove to be somewhat overwhelming at times, however, it is mesmerising nonetheless.

‘Nuh Nuh Ready’ signals the next phase of the decorated producer’s career and comes with the promise of new material to come. It’s a different sound, but it’s the one Harris is now pursuing. In the meantime, Harris will continue his Omnia Nightclub residency every Friday, after signing a lucrative $200 million deal to remain at the famous hotspot until 2020.
