US superduo The Chainsmokers are back more new music, as the pair premiere their latest single ‘You Owe Me‘. Having entered 2018 off the back of an astoundingly successful year, their 2017 debut album ‘Memories… Do Not Open’ showed more of their new indie dance crossover sound, and they seemed to be carrying on this positive momentum with their first release of the year ‘Sick Boy’ last month. Even though the release of ‘Sick Boy’ led to some very mixed reactions amongst fans, the track surely shows that Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall are capable of adding hints of pop and rock into their electronic music productions.
‘You Owe Me’ follows in similar fashion, with a downtempo drum beat setting the pace for the song from the outset. As expected Drew’s vocals are at the heart of the track as he delivers another impressive vocal performance with intriguing and smart lyrical content. Brimming with guitar riffs and atmospheric synths, as the track progresses we hear their dance music roots come to fruition with the addition of a trap-influenced drop towards the conclusion. Overall, ‘You Owe Me’ is emotive and dark, yet equally addictive, and will no doubt be a favourite with The Chainsmokers’ loyal fanbase.
