American electro duo The Chainsmokers surely have come a long way. After bursting to the scene back in 2014 with ‘Selfie’ they really established themselves as artists that are here to stay, by releasing a series of chart topping hits like ‘Don’t Let Me Down‘, ‘Closer‘, and ‘Paris‘. More recently Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall decided to shift direction somewhat, by joining forces with none other than Coldplay for their banger ‘Something Just Like This’. Their 2017 debut album ‘Memories… Do Not Open’ showed more of this newly chosen direction, as did the start of 2018, with their first release of the year ‘Sick Boy’.

Even though the release of ‘Sick Boy’ led to some very mixed reactions amongst fans, the track surely shows that The Chainsmokers are capable of adding hints of pop and rock into their electronic music productions. With a Depeche Mode-like sound, ‘Sick Boy’ sounds very fresher than ever and the accompanying video shows how passionate both Andrew and Alex are about producing great music. For the video, the two teamed up with famous directing duo Ben and Alex Brewer, a pair that has directed some of The Chainsmokers‘ favorite videos. Together with cinematographer Rob Witt ‘The Brewers’ came up with a pretty amazing video full of dazzling visuals, flaming special effects and monster transformations.

Drew Taggart explains the importance of ‘Sick Boy’ at this point in their career:

“This is a video that we’ve been looking forward to doing for quite some time now. It’s a song that means a lot to us and where we’ve come as artists … a really important moment in our careers.”

In order to show their fans how excited they are with the result of the ‘Sick Boy’ video, The Chainsmokers have now dropped a ‘behind the scenes’ clip of it, in which they explain more about the collaboration with both The Brewers and Rob Witt. You can check out the full video of ‘Sick Boy’ right here, but be sure to also watch the behind the scenes video of it down below.
