Alesso returns to his club roots with surprise tech house set

Home Uncategorized Alesso returns to his club roots with surprise tech house set

Swedish superstar Alesso returned to his club roots earlier this month, marking his long-awaited return to New York with a sold-out show. Older fans, as well as newer arrivals to the Alesso hype train, were in for a treat as the legendary act dropped an unexpected tech house and techno set at the Avant Gardner last Friday, ranging from a selection of Eric Prydz tunes, classic rave anthems, and of course, a stellar remix of the massive Grammy-nominated ‘Cola’ by Camelphat.

The famous Swede hasn’t played a set like this since his early days, his usual setlist being geared towards festival goers with bass-heavy tunes and pop hits. In fact, his latest few releases have veered heavily in a pop direction, leaving many older fans slightly disappointed with his change of heart.

You can watch some of the fan-recorded footage below, capturing essential highlights of the past weekend.

In this set of videos, Alesso is seen playing a mashup of Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow with Riva Starr – ‘The Wickedest Sound’, followed by his epic Calvin Harris collaboration ‘Under Control”, and a mashup of his 2014 hit ‘Heroes’ with Pryda – Choo. Some other recordings can be seen below, highlighting some essential and nostalgic moments of the show.
