Eight years ago, Swedish DJ Axwell played a special show at LIV in Miami during the 2010 Winter Music Conference. To properly usher in this years electrifying week in Miami, Axtone Records posted a one-of-a-kind throwback Smörgåsbord mix on Youtube. The mix is full of some of the hottest grooves of the era finely curated and hand picked by Axwell shortly after he began his meteoric rise to the top of the DJ hierarchy.

Kicking off the the show with “Miami 2 Ibiza” produced by the Swedish House Mafia, debauchery surely ensued after Axwell was given command of the party for the next hour. “The King of Edits”, Dirty South aptly described Axwell’s unique performance style in 2010 as we can clearly pick up how his set is a barrage of originals, vocals, mashups, and reboots. His sound at the time was characterized and adored because of his big room melodies, crafty piano hooks, and floor shaking drums. The progressive house maverick then blitzes through some timeless records such as Justice vs. Simian’s “We Are Your Friends“. Also making an appearance is Steve Angello’s deadly remix of the Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams“. Some early deep/electro vibes set the atmosphere of the party and we are treated to some old school Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano in the form of their track “Snitch”. Capping it all off is an enchanting mashup of Tim Bergs’ (Avicii) breakout hit “Bromance” coupled with the acappella of Julie McKnights‘ “Diamond Life” and “Dynamik” from Michael Woods.

A little piece of history, Axwell’s 2010 Smörgåsbord mix at LIV in Miami is a true testament to the sound of the scene at the time and a brief snapshot of what house music tasted like just before it started to blow up into the global phenomenon it is today. Preluding to 2018, Axtone is celebrating “Axtone Miami 2018” March 21st at DELANO Beach Club. The bossman will be playing a show as well as his esteemed colleagues including names like Dirty South, Tom Staar, Bob Sinclair, and many more.
