In their new wave of superstar interviews, Beatport had the opportunity to sit down with dance music’s heavyweights: Steve Aoki, Laidback Luke and Hardwell. The trio were asked simple yet thought provoking questions to do with their musical influences.

Steve was asked which track he wished he made and the answer is rather surprising; Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. The Dim Mak boss in his own words: “The song takes you on this musical narrative that just blows your mind. There’s a lot of bands that did those kind of journeys, like Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, but ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is my favorite.” Perhaps there’s more to the cake-throwing party animal than we realize?

Laidback Luke talks about the track that boosted him onto the international scene and it’s none other than his own take on Green Velvet’s ‘The Stalker’. He mentions how this 1996 remix made its way into techno legend, Carl Cox’s sets and a string of gigs and releases followed. Luke is now ranked 31st in the DJ Mag top 100 and is still releasing monster hits to this day.

Finally, world no.1 DJ, Hardwell reflected on the track that got him into electronic dance music to begin with. It’s none other than an iconic creation from his Zero 76 partner, Tiesto. The two hail from the same town Breda, and Tiesto’s creation of ‘Flight 643’ back in the old days got young Robbert intrigued. It’s clear to see that Tiesto has been a mentor figure to Hardwell through the years;“He’s always been a huge inspiration to me, and this is the track that got me into EDM.
