Instagram bans #EDM

Instagram is one of the most popular platforms for us millennials to share our everyday life. This picture sharing application allows us to stay connected to the world and informed about the latest trend of “what’s hot and what’s not”. With such a wide user base, inappropriate photos are often uploaded to the application. In order to regulate them, Instagram has banned over 200 hashtags at present day. Sometime ago, when questioned why the company bans certain hashtags (#curvy), they responded with an official statement:

“We block (i.e. make unsearchable) certain hashtags when they are consistently being used to share images and videos that violate our Community Guidelines,” the rep added. “In this case, #curvy was being used to share content that violates our guidelines around nudity.”

Recently, Instagram moves in to attack the EDM community with the ban of #EDM – for reasons unknown due to a lack of an official statement thus far.

As shown in the screenshot below, we can no longer find any posts with #EDM. Has the popular “EDM” culture got to a breaking point that Instagram and the general public just could not stand it anymore? Only time would tell.
