Home Uncategorized David Guetta named as Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic artist

As 2015 comes to a close, Billboard’s numerous peak charts determine which artists, songs, and albums have had the biggest year. With categories such as “Top Artists”, “Hot Songs”, and “Top Albums”, topping these charts reflects an artist’s success from the sales, streams, and trends of his or her music. This year, under the dance/electronic music category, French superstar David Guetta takes home the cake as Billboard’s “Top Dance/Electronic Artist”. Calvin Harris comes in second, with DJ Snake and Major Lazer right behind the top two artists.

David Guetta as the chart’s #1 artist may shock, or even anger, some people but he still undoubtedly had a big year in terms of the sales of his single “Hey Mama” and his album ‘Listen‘. “Hey Mama”, which featured Nicki Minaj, Bebe Rexha, and Afrojack, topped the “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs” chart for 11 weeks and the “Dance/Electronic Digital Songs” chart. In addition, ‘Listen’ took the highest spot of the “Top Dance/Electronic Albums” chart, which overall solidified Guetta’s current status as Billboard’s top dance/electronic artist.

Despite Guetta’s hit’s 11-week run as the top song, “Lean On” by Major Lazer, DJ Snake, and wins the #1 spot of the “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs” chart for the entire 2015. Spending 18 weeks as the #1 song, it became the longest streak at the top since Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” in 2013. Jack Ü’s “Where Are Ü Now” comes in second and “Hey Mama” is third.

DJ Snake’s name is not only placed on this category, however, as he ranked first in the “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Artists“, “Dance/Electronic Digital Songs Artists“, and “Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs Artists” charts. Winning these categories could be a direct result of the success of “Lean On” and his other hit “You Know You Like It” with AlunaGeorge.

Lastly, Swedish powerhouse Axwell /\ Ingrosso also topped the charts for the best “Dance Club Artists” and “Dance Club Songs” for their song “Something New“. The two former Swedish House Mafia members unquestionably had a successful year, from their chart-topping releases to their astonishing live performances, thus it is great to see their hard work pay off.
