Tobtok – Fast Car (feat. River)

It’s melodic from Sweden once again.

For a quick and rising producer, 23 year old Tobias Karlsson aka Tobtok has already made quite a name for himself. After his track ‘Higher’ became Zane Lowe‘s ‘Hype Track of the Week‘ the stage was set for this talented producer from Uppsala to let his infectious sound do the magic. Citing Nile Rodgers as an inspiration like many other current day producers, his revival of 70’s Disco sound infused with the electronic zeitgeist puts him on another level altogether.

His latest project was his take on Tracy Chapman‘s chart topping 1988 hit ‘Fast Car‘ with assistance from London based artist River doing the vocal rendition for the original. The track opens with the mesmerizing guitar riff from the original while tropical vibes fluctuate throughout. It’s sun-kissed through and through and the synth work on the track only goes to show the talent that the Swede has developed over the years. After fighting off cancer earlier in life, he now knows how to make the most of each moment, a quality that he showcases well over here!
