Oliver Heldens plays tastemaker on latest BBC Radio 1 residency set
It was all attention to the radios, when Oliver Heldens took his turn to showcase his favorites at present as part of his set at BBC Radio 1. The Dutchman has been constantly rising in terms of artist value and quality ever since his Gecko days. As far as I recall, the story goes back to the days on LE, where he thanked people for their support on his ‘Show Me Love’ bootleg and this was in March 2013, 9 months before the release of the chart-topping ‘Gecko’!
Taking the opportunity behind the decks at BBC Radio 1, Heldens kicked off his 1 hour set with the vocal rendition of his latest track with Tiesto ‘Wombass‘, called ‘The Right Song‘ with Nathalie La Rose on vocal duties. Dance music revered production duo of Chocolate Puma and Bolier with his new sound followed. Showcasing talent from the Spinnin‘ camp and his own Heldeep imprint also got a place in the set. As we moved towards the end of the set Heldens played ‘Ooh La La,‘ a track that he did under his HI-LO alias. The set ends with Chris Lorenzo take on 99 Souls‘ 2015 track The Girl Is Mine. All in all, a well balanced set from the Heldeep boss, reasserting his post as one of the leading tastemakers among the crème de la crème of the mainstream industry.
