Celebrate 5 years of Deadmau5’s iconic “Raise Your Weapon”

Today marks the five year anniversary of Joel ‘Deadmau5‘ Zimmerman’s iconic hit “Raise Your Weapon“. Arguably the best track on his 2011 studio release, 4×4=12, this progressive hit has become a true industry staple in the world of electronic music. Having tailored a career around the constant interchange of genres, Deadmau5’s legacy is of a certain stature because of he’s ‘risk it all’ attitude; “Raise Your Weapon” is a clear depiction of that.

Known for it’s flowing piano medley, fervent vocals, and a drop remembered around the world, this record speaks volumes in terms of production dexterity and a knowledge of ones craft. From the top of the track, fans are whisked into a twighlight of dark instrumentals and storybook lyrics. With introductory vocals by Greta Svabo Bech, Bech does an amazing job inviting listeners on an Deadmau5’s eerie musical statement. All leading to one of the most essential drops of the past decade, it’s no wonder the song has been remixed by the likes of them.

Madeon’s take, which has earned him close to five millions plays, takes the original foundation and gives it a mind of its own. An overall faster and heightened rendition (some even say better), Madeon showcased his skills and than some with his flawless edition of the classic. Another remix by Dutch trio, Noisia is chalk full of drum “n” bass heaven. Directed by a constant back drum rhythem, the main premise of Noisia’s version can best be highlighted by their ongoing pickups and perfect house to bass positioning.

Nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 54th Grammy Awards, and not to mention the first of his tracks to land a spot on Billboard’s Top 100, “Raise Your Weapon” as a whole is a relentless track I’m sure will be around for many more years to come.

Listen here and share the love.
