Premiere: Laidback Luke & Mike Cervello – Front 2 The Back

Laidback Luke could comfortably have the title of collaboration king in the dance music industry. From his work alongside Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Hardwell, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Project 46, Chocolate Puma and Martin Solveig, the Dutch label owner can lay claim to elevating the genre to where it is today. Having also put his hand to presenting at DJ seminar’s to educate the next generations, his 23 year career has witnessed extraordinary change.

Pairing up with fellow Dutchman Mike Cervello for the emerging talents ‘Empire’ EP, Laidback Luke’s talent is the gift that keeps on giving to his adoring fans. With his label, Mixmash, continuing to evolve and develop in both sound output and global reputation, the nurturing role he has adopted in recent years is one that reaps great reward for listeners and collaborators alike.

A key member of the Barong Family, founded by esteemed Amsterdam DJ/Producer Yellow Claw, Cervello has put his hand to a number of tracks to the ever-expanding portfolio of the label, including a remix of Yellow Claw himself. Working alongside the like of Moksi, Mightyfool, LYN YNZ, and Cesqueax, Cervello’s sound holds echoes of traditional house in the context of modern rave.

The track itself is primed for the summer’s festival season in the titled alone. “Front 2 The Back” brings with it a heart racing rendition of tribal percussion infused with looped rap samples. Orientated around a hyped atmosphere, the stomping drop is topped with a rhythm of high-pitched synth, injecting evermore energy into the mix. Clean and professional switch-ups, beat gating and other subtleties also signify the mastery of Laidback Luke with Mike Cervello’s ability to craft big-room sound.
