Tiësto’s legendary remix of Delerium’s “Silence” is 16 years old today
Whether you love him or hate him, no one can deny the effect Tiesto has had on dance music. Now a veteran of the scene who’s been performing and producing for over 20 years, he has well and truly deserved the title of legend.
What will always be remembered as one of his greatest achievements however, is his timeless remix of Delerium’s “Silence” which is sixteen years old today. Entitled the “In Search of Sunrise Remix”, a nod to the legendary ISOS compilations from back in the day, this remix encompasses everything that defined Tiesto’s sound, and indeed the classic trance sound of the late 90s and early 2000’s. A remix that is full of soul, emotion and heart, this soundtracked many a sunrise as the title suggests, and is one of those productions that contains a very deep meaning behind it. It’s a track that can conjure up a wide range of feelings for the listener, from nostalgia to sadness and joy, which is why it was voted the 12th greatest dance track of all time by readers of Mixmag back in 2013.
The original is a complete contrast to this version, as it’s much slower and features very few dance elements, however Tiesto took the now legendary vocals and changed this into a peak time monster. The track starts as a hard hitting trance stormer before the famed chord progression comes in around half way through the track during the breakdown which takes this production to an entirely other level. Widely regarded by many as one of, if not the greatest remix ever, this is certainly a highlight in Tiesto’s already dazzling career, and could well be his best moment ever.
So on it’s 16th anniversary, let’s celebrate one of the most memorable dance tracks ever recorded:
