Jack Ü earn Skrillex & Diplo another gold certification
Jack Ü was a project that helped re-establish Skrillex and Diplo’s strong grasp on the trends and tastes of electronic dance music. It also reasoned their cemented place in its history books. And while relatively small in sample size of evidence, its impact at the time and since is justification.
Breaking new ground, what began as a low-key billing on the Mad Decent Block Party in San Diego over three year’s ago in 2013, has undeniably influence the course of not only EDM, but the direction of mainstream music respectively also. The duo’s debut self-titled mixtape landed halfway through 2015, and today, a gold certification from the RIAA has secured the iconic project’s status as a significant and memorable one.
The mixtape’s standout track, the chart-topping and addictive “Where Are Ü Now” collaboration alongside Justin Bieber has already garnered the duo a triple platinum certification earlier this year. In turn highlighting Skrillex and Diplo’s stereotypes as venerated DJ’s are invalid statements at best. It also officially crowned the dance titans as pop music’s most in-demand producers of the moment.
Now, their first collaborative record together, ‘Skrillex and Diplo present Jack Ü’, has officially moved over 500,000 units. While new Jack Ü music was previously promised around Coachella, we can hope to expect Sonny and Wes to deliver new content any day now. Although that in itself could be a wild guessing game given their fluid creativity and busy schedules.
