If ever there was a record which defined dance music from 2007-2009, it would undoubtedly be † from french electro duo Justice. The hard-hitting, raw and powerful beats of the Frenchies defined a generation of dance music ruled by electro house and the release of their mockumentary “Across The Universe” in 2008 showed the rock-star like producer’s causing havoc as they toured † across the US via bus.

Who of course doesn’t know the monumental opening few bars of cross, the ominous, looming horns of “Genesis” set the tone for the rest of the dark, grimy electro pounders which follow and probably acts as one of the best opening tracks for any dance record ever. Used commercially in a number of different ways, most people will remember Genesis from the Assassins Creed 2 trailer, which acted as the perfect background music for an epic game.

Of course, tracks like D.A.N.C.E. and DVNO had that more commercial appeal and were of course released as singles to quite widespread success, the former even hitting no. 1 on the UK dance singles charts.

While many records have some special moments and some filler moments, with Cross Justice delivered an impeccable record that was all killer, no filler. Tunes such as Waters Of Nazareth, while extremely rough and ready, were groundbreaking at the time and opened the floodgates to a slew of copy cats, none of which of course could match the greatness of Justice.

The album itself still stands the test of time even nine years later, and it’s influence is still being heard in the productions of many young producers such as fellow Frenchman Madeon. While the duo’s second album Audio, Video, Disco, wasn’t quite as well received by fans, many wait in heightened anticipation for the groups third studio outing, which based on this tweet from Ed Banger not too long ago, should be coming very soon.

In the meantime, let’s look back at one of the greatest electronic albums ever created:
