After trance legend Paul van Dyk (PVD) experienced a terrible fall back in February, he has remarkably made a very swift recovery and is already primed to return to the decks at Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas towards the end of this month. The producer is extremely lucky to be alive, but thankfully he’s raring to go again and sat down with EDC owner Pasquale Rotella for his Night Owl radio show to turn in an exclusive mix and interview.

Speaking about the incident, PVD said “it was quite drastic” and said he was extremely close to death. He added that if it wasn’t for the help of a number of doctors and the support of his fans, family and fiancée he wouldn’t be alive today. The DJ went onto to thank everyone for their support, and said he was “overwhelmed” by the amount of messages he received and that he’s “forever grateful“. PVD then gave us the lowdown on what actually happened on that fateful night in Utrecht, saying he “stepped on part of the surface of the stage that wasn’t solid“. He broke his spine twice and suffered a traumatic brain injury from the fall, leaving the DJ without the ability to perform so many basic human functions such as walking and speaking.

While Paul is still very much on the road to recovery, he is on the bill to perform at EDC Las Vegas on June 19th. The dance legend went on to pick a number of tracks for a guest mix on the show. Also featured on the show was a massive guest mix from Don Diablo, who curated a selection of his favourite cuts at the moment. Highlights include the Zonderling edit of techno classic “Domino” from Oxia as well as a brand new ID from the producer.
