Home Uncategorized Album Review: Benny Benassi releases highly anticipated ‘Danceaholic’ album

Ever since the release of Benny Benassi‘s iconic hit ‘Satisfaction‘, the chart-topping single has gone on to undoubtedly set the path for what we know today as electro house. The success of the track led to a series of 5 albums released from 2003 to 2011. And after a 5 years long break, Benny has finally returned to release his sixth artist album entitled “Danceaholic”, out now on Ultra Music. The 15-track offering serves as a perfect blend of old and new, demonstrating Benassi’s forward-thinking approach and illustrious ability to remain relevant. Consisting of reworks of previously released tracks and a bevy of fresh new tunes as well as collaborations with both longtime dance veterans and up-and-coming artists, the album features pairing with vocalists such as Chris Brown, Christian Burns, John Legend and lead singer of System of A Down – Serj Tankian, to name a few.

Setting the tone for the album is one of the summer’s hottest hits, ‘Paradise‘ featuring Chris Brown, who team up for the first time since their major hit “Beautiful People” 5 years ago, a track soared up main stream charts across the globe. This time taking a more tropical vibe than the previous one, Benassi put’s his hand to what is one of dance musics biggest trends. “Paradise” uses a progression that capitalizes on disco connotations before breaking into its soulful bridge led my Browns signature vocals.

However, ‘Paradise‘ isn’t the only track that sees the Italian return to past projects, as other reworks on the album include an updated version of the 2013 popular sing-along collaboration with Grammy Award-winning superstar John Legend, “Dance The Pain Away,” as well as a deeper edit of the tech-house track “I Wanna Be Disco” where Benassi teamed up with fellow Italian producer Chicco Secci, and also a slowed down ‘Back to the Future’ mix of Benassi’s 2015 collaboration with Marc Benjamin entitled “Who I Am”. Additionally, Danceaholic reincarnates the heavy slammer “Shooting Helicopters,” featuring vocals from System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian, and “Gangsta,” the successful collaboration with fellow renowned producer MOGUAI.

Of course, we are treated to some brand new Benassi music in the form of ‘Danceaholic’, ‘Out of Control’, ‘Carousel’, ‘Analog Heart’, and ‘West Coast Patrol’, and not to forget some new vocal offerings of ‘I Keep Running’, ‘Universe’, and ‘Pandemonium’. These new tracks range from underground to future synths to electro to progressive house. If anything, this album is a testament to how Benny Benassi has grown into the complete producer – he is creative and versatile, with an incredible talent for sound design and has ultimately set the benchmark for production standards. It is seriously impressive to see one of the industry’s earliest stars continue to adapt and dominant the scene after all these years. Of course, the numerous collaborators featured on the album have all played their part, as Benassi continues to attract the hottest artists of today. Overall, “Danceaholic” is yet another full package of fun and freakishness and it proves once again that a decade and a half later, Benny Benassi still knows how to top the charts.
