Mikael Weermets & Sodeep – Arms Wide Open

Mikael Weermets is a musician in the scene with quite the story. In turn, helping mould the person and artist he is today, where his values and sounds compliment each other rather effortlessly.

Emerging from a near-three year hiatus from the scene earlier this year, Weermets’ 10 year career started from humble beginnings. Securing his first DJ residency while working as a janitor at the age of 18, very few, including himself, would have imagined a full-time career from it. However, his performance at Tomorrowland last weekend is evidence of just that.

Previously named as ‘the next big thing’ by Tiësto himself, Mikael enjoyed a flurry of nomination’s and awards, as well as Beatport charting’s. He was also one of the first artist’s to join Musical Freedom, before stepping into the realm of remixes for the likes of Avicii, Craig David, David Guetta and even Eminem. However, it was this point when the inspiration from the likes of his old music teacher and Michael Jackson started to whither, leading to his 3 year hiatus.

But, as night falls, sun follows, with Mikael Weermets dormancy from the scene reinvigorating his passion. In turn, allowing two years worth of studio production to quietly build up in the pipeline. In conjunction with his new approach also came the founding of his label, Free Music Recordings, Holding a simple, yet eloquent title, it was born out of a desire, to give back and nature the next generations of talent. And having recently celebrated its first release, the future looks bright.

Following up his triumphant return of “Shadows“, was never an easy task. Teaming up with little-known German artist Sodeep, “Arms Open Wide” seamlessly fuses melodic deep house and pure pop. Functioning effectively at a radio, club and festival scale, the evolved and matured output of Mikael Weermets is evident. Injected with Sodeep’s scintillating touches, it has already reached over 400,000 plays on SoundCloud in under a month.

With plenty more music set to come from his portfolio and his label, artist development, a Spinnin’ Records release and collaborations can be expected in the near future. Unbounded by genre’s and unpressured by trends, Mikael Weermets has opted for the ‘quality not quantity’ mantra.
