The Weeknd – Starboy ft. Daft Punk

After hinting at a possible collaboration between Daft Punk and The Weeknd, their joint effort has now surprisingly surfaced on Apple Music as the title track for The Weeknd’s upcoming album. Hours after “Starboy”, the soon-to-be-released follow up album to his 2015 chart topper “Beauty Behind The Madness”, The Weeknd confirmed rumors everyone’s favorite robots would be contributing to his latest output by dropping their collab tune.

The song marks the French duo’s first collaboration since “Gust of Wind” on Pharrell’s album GIRL, the production sounding more “Discovery” than “Random Access Memories”. On the other hand, “Starboy” is The Weeknd’s third studio album, following “Beauty Behind the Madness” and “Kissland”. The singer has also released three mixtapes – “House of Balloons”, “Thursday” and “Echoes of Silence”, culminating in the compilation album Trilogy.

As you’d expect from the cross-genre collaboration, it’s a huge vocal record, pushing The Weeknd’s beautiful top-line to the forefront. The corresponding Daft Punk elements are a pure melodic bliss, blending The Weeknd’s instantly catchy hook over soulful piano notes and meaningful sonic embellishments. Stream the track below and expect the full album out on November 25, featuring 17 additional tracks and guaranteeing another chart topping masterpiece from the king of soul.
