Electronic music is not typically a lyricist’s genre, yet Matthew Koma is an exception to the rule. As one of the most accomplished writers behind numerous smash hits including Zedd’s ‘Spectrum’, Grammy- winning hit ‘Clarity’ as well as Tiësto’s ‘Wasted’ which has amassed nearly 200 million Spotify streams, Koma seems set on taking over the music world. With 8 Beatport #1s, 4 Billboard Top 10s, and a #1 Billboard single, there is little question why Entertainment Tonight named Matthew Koma “the Man with EDM’s Golden Touch.” The genre-bending artist has also featured and co-written with Giorgio Moroder, The Knocks, Steve Aoki, Afrojack, RAC, Fedde Le Grande, Audien, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and more.

Koma’s forthcoming debut album will further showcase his music evolution as he taps into the new generation of producers, working with Louis the Child, Jai Wolf, Grey, Steve James, Flux Pavilion, and more. These new collaborations have led to a fresh new side for Matthew, focusing on straight-ahead pop music, Future Bass, and Dubstep.

The hitmaker’s debut single from the album is ‘Kisses Back’ which is co-produced with the talented Flux Pavilion. Koma’s first single pairs his well-crafted, emotionally resonant pop songwriting with cutting-edge electronic production. The track is a lush and melodic journey and exactly what we would expect from the talented producers. We Rave You sat down with the talented hit-maker Koma and found out more about the new single and working with Flux Pavilion.

On the inspiration behind ‘Kisses Back’ Koma explains:

“Kisses Back is a song about infidelity and I wrote it after a breakup that left me questioning the authenticity of the relationship’s ‘good’ moments. Deception often cheapens and poisons everything that was said, done and felt before and this was a way of coping with it.”

After a successful initial collaboration, Koma and Flux Pavilion decided to get back into the studio:

“We met through a mutual friend in Miami at Ultra and wound up really hitting it off over a huge sushi meal. The first thing we worked on together was a song called ‘Emotional’ for his album and from there we developed a huge respect for each other’s creativity. Sometimes it just clicks with people and he’s someone I absolutely love working with. I trust his taste.”

With such an obvious chemistry between the duo, it comes as no surprise that the two talents work well together:

“It’s really organic for us. We trust each other’s instincts, so there’s a healthy push/pull to get our songs to the strongest place possible. He always offers a really unique perspective that twists my ideas into something I wouldn’t have expected. ‘Kisses Back’ is a good example of both our worlds coming together. He’ll turn something completely upside down without taking away what connects emotionally.”

So what’s next for Matthew Koma? There is so much more to look forward to from the young trailblazer:

“Releasing more music from my record! I was really lucky to work with some friends on this album like Jai Wolf, Louis The Child, Grey, Steve James and I think each song turned out really special. I’m excited for people to hear all this music in a much quicker fashion than I’ve previously released.”
