Diplo celebrates his 38th birthday today and so on behalf of the We Rave You team, we would like to wish him a very happy birthday! To celebrate this occasion, we are going to look through some of the finest moments in Diplo’s career that made him the artist he is today. These moments will include anything from headlining the world’s biggest clubs and festivals to writing some of the world’s biggest hits. Let’s get started!

1) Meeting M.I.A

When Diplo was DJing in London nightclub Fabric (recently closed), M.I.A decided to come up and speak to him after becoming a fan of his newly released single at the time. After many conversations, the pair both realised they had a lot in common, including both being film graduates and decided to start collaborating together. This eventually lead to them developing grammy nominated hit ‘Paper Planes’ which you can relive below:

2) Setting up Mad Decent record label

Mad Decent was founded by Diplo and has since been a great platform for artists to break into the scene. Many of these artists have actually gone to do big things such as going on headline tours around the world and reaching the charts in many countries. This includes Jauz, Dillon Francis and Ookay. Mad Decent was also responsible for releasing ‘Harlem Shake’ by Baauer which went viral back in 2012/2013, causing him to burst into the scene. There has also been a host of Mad Decent Block Party events, where Diplo curates a lineup full of talent for cities around the world.   We have to give massive credit to Diplo for sourcing and showcasing all of this great talent !

3) Major Lazer & DJ Snake – ‘Lean On’ (feat. MØ)

Perhaps Diplo’s biggest collaboration yet, ‘Lean On’ has reached over 1.7 billion views on YouTube, making it currently the 9th most watched video on YouTube and the second most played track of all time on Spotify. This obviously lead to many awards from getting platinums in the USA, UK and Australia as well as hitting number one in multiple countries. All of this success was way more than Diplo expected, making it an extra special moment.

4) Forming Jack Ü and performing the biggest gig of his career

Diplo and Skrillex teamed up to create a project called Jack Ãœ back in 2013. This was a match made in heaven as both are founders of two of the biggest labels in dance music, OWSLA and Mad Decent and are also the biggest stars in their respective areas of music. The duo collaborated with Justin Bieber to create ‘Where Are Ãœ Now’ and soon after became an international success. The song managed to a Grammy for ‘Best Dance Recording’ and the album it featured on – ‘Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ãœ‘  also got a grammy for ‘Best Dance/Electronic Album’. This success lead to them being able to headline Madison Square Garden, a 20,000 capacity arena in New York, on New Years Eve which was streamed worldwide.

5) Major Lazer’s future

Major Lazer is set to release a brand new album ‘Music is the Weapon’ in January 2017. This moment may not have happened yet, but this album features the biggest names to feature on a Major Lazer album to date. The group will collaborate with the likes of The Weeknd, Sia and Gwen Stefani. This means Diplo will want to start 2017 off with a bang and we can expect to see singles from this album in the charts in no time at all! Meanwhile ‘Believer’, a collaboration with Showtek, will feature on the album and is available to listen to now, check it out below:
