After their admittedly below-par performance at the MTV VMA’s this year, The Chainsmokers went into their performance at the American Music Awards with real intent. Aiming to prove what many of their fans knew, the New York duo and Halsey certainly made amends.

After topping the Billboard charts for 12 straight weeks, “Closer” is undoubtedly the most popular song from their Collage EP. And that’s saying something when it sits alongside the tracks of “All We Know”, “Inside Out” and “Don’t Let Me Down”. Reaching the No.1 spot of the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart in its first week, it also gained 4.2 million streams online.

With poor acoustics hampering their performance last time, The Chainsmokers pulled out all the stops. Bluntly stating their previous performance “…sounded like sh-t,” Drew Taggart and Alex Pall brought in the talents of Travis Barker on the drums, providing “Closer” with a dynamic energy on the night. Joined by a wealth of pyrotechnics and a cohort of backup dancers, Halsey’s renowned voice shone.

And with subtle changes to the composition itself, the crowd and viewing audience certainly got to witness one of their best live performances to date. Check out an unofficial clip of their performance below and let us know your thoughts!
