2016 has seen a wide variety of music reach the charts, from pop to hip-hop to indie, and dance music has been more prominent that ever before. So it is no surprise that some of the biggest dance tracks of the year have featured on Neilsen Music’s top selling list of digital downloads for the calendar year. Most notably, The Chainsmokers have featured twice in the top 15, with “Closer” (featuring Halsey) coming in at No. 3 and “Don’t Let Me Down” (featuring Daya) reaching No. 8.

Closer‘ has sold 2,124,000 copies since its release in July, making it this year’s top collaboration and top EDM song, whilst ‘Don’t Let Me Down‘ has sold 1,763,000 copies since its release in February. Following in hot pursuit was the Seeb Remix of Mike Posner‘s ‘I Took A Pill In Ibiza‘, ranking at No. 4 overall. The song has sold 1,525,000 copies in 2016, on top of 29,000 copies it sold in 2015. As dance music carries on its momentum into the new year and dominates the radio airwaves across the world, who knows how many tracks will be amongst the top ranked this time next year.
