Midland wins the coveted Essential Mix of the Year

Home Uncategorized Midland wins the coveted Essential Mix of the Year

The legendary Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 has been a staple part of electronic music culture for over twenty years. The weekly mix show showcases two hours of the finest in (mostly) underground dance music and allows us to get an insight into the tastes and minds of some of our favorite artists. It is one of the most well-respected mix shows in electronic music, and as such the artist who wins Essential Mix of the year will no doubt have put together a sensational mix of tunes. Last year it was Berghain resident and techno heavyweight Ben Klock, this year it has been deservedly awarded to English producer/DJ Midland.

The mix beat off those from the likes of Dusky as well as a phenomenal mix from Innervisions head-honchos Dixon & Ame. Looking at the tracklist it’s easy to see why the mix is so highly thought of, with tracks from the likes of Jon Hopkins and Midland himself being a highlight. One of the best moments in the mix had to have been when Midland’s own tune Final Credits was dropped, a track which went onto dominate festivals around the world this summer and was rightfully voted by Mixmag as their track of the year.
