With the announcement of a new album, and a film idea in the works, 2017 is shaping out to be a big year for Pretty Lights performer, Derek Smith. Preceding his 2013 album, A Color Map of the Sun, Pretty Lights’ repertoire has been at a steady incline since his March premier of “Only Yesterday”, and the 3 year, sold-out running of “Bass Lights” festival with friends Bassnectar, GRiZ, Gramatik and more. In a recent interview with the Denver Post, the Colorado native went on describing his ideas for what’s to come in the months ahead.

“I’m trying to make a film and a record that’s really about the connection of people — the amazing things that happen between people on the same frequency. It will be an episodic thing that makes a full piece. Every song has an episode.”

All songs featured on the upcoming release will come to life in storybook form this summer at “An Episodic Musical Festival“. Here, concertgoers will be engulfed into what looks like a 2 day, live performance from Pretty Lights and a slue of special guests. Said to hit specific locations across the US August through September 2017, early bird tickets are now available for purchase; general sales open this Friday.

“When I was booking that tour, I wanted to call it “The Weekend’s Episodic Festivals.” I didn’t know why I wanted to call it that, but it’s all going together. Every festival, we’d have a film shoot that became the building blocks of these episodic film pieces. It’s pretty (cool).”
